DISTRICT 12 GENERAL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES

Thursday, April 5th, 2018

District 12 General Service Steering Committee Meeting

  • Call to Order by Nancy (DCMC) @ 5:30pm
  • Introduction- Nancy
  • Public Information Committee\
  • John is unable to serve as the PI chair
  • New chair needed for PI
  • Treatment Committee updates -Jacqueline
    • Request to use the coffee pot for the April 21 Event
    • Coffee pot use approved
    • Change Steering Committee meeting time – Nancy
    • Motion to move Steering Committee to meet at 6:00pm
    • Motion approved

District 12 General Service Meeting

    • Call to Order by Nancy (DCMC) @ 7:30 pm
    • Open with the GSR Preamble followed by the Serenity Prayer

 

  • New GSRs
    • Dimitri – Bubba Affect PON SC  
    • Shayla – Beginner’s Discussion YMCA LN
    • Ashley – Women’s Discussion SJC
    • Matthew – Old Time AA RSM
    • Mary – Women’s SS SC   
    • Rosemary – Women’s Discussion DP
    • Chris – Friday Night CC LB

 

  • Tradition #4 Workshop Recap: Nathan (sub for Micaiah)
    • Each group is autonomous to conduct its meeting the way it wants to which means that each group is different
    • Doing a group inventory can help with making sure that the meeting aligns with Traditions and carrying the message
    • Consider how the meeting is conducted reflects AA as a whole

 

  • Concept #4 Workshop Recap: David
    • Right to Participation – everyone in AA participates equally (delegates, Trustees, etc.)
    • Right of Participation keeps AA operating based on the group conscience   

 

  • Secretary’s Report: Andrea
    • Motion to Approve March minutes
    • Seconded – All in favor – Minutes approved
    • The District 12 Budget monthly report will be included in the minutes packet

 

  • Registrar’s Report: Lindsay
    • No report

  • Alternate DCMC’s Report: Jason (unable to attend)
    • No Report

 

  • DCMC’s Report: Nancy
    • Area Assembly is on Sunday April 8, 2018
    • Explanation of the General Service Conference process
    • The Workshop (Assembly) is open to all AA members
    • You get to see the Right of Decision in action
    • The Delegate report back to our District will be at our August meeting on August 3rd. Districts 06 and 18 will join us.
    • PRAASA Report
    • Recording of the Big Book in Navajo (Navajo is a spoken not a written language)
    • Carrying the message to remote meetings (Yukon in Canada, Alaska, other rural areas)
    • Discussion on use of social media
    • Discussion on proposed pamphlet on atheists and agnostics
    • Young people are not being represented on the panels
    • As a result of the Hispanic Women’s Workshops in the last two years, meetings are being started for Spanish Speaking Women, and the newest in New Hampshire had its first newcomer earlier this year
    • Pre-Pre-Conference Workshop
    • 120 people attended attended the Pre Pre Conference Workshop jointly hosted by Districts 6, 12, and 18
    • Area Workshop to vote group conscience is in Wilmington
  • Treasurer’s Report: Dennis
    • Contributions are consistent from about 10 groups in our district
    • Reimbursement received from Area for our sponsoring of the ASC in March

 

  • Committee Reports
  • GSR Orientation – Ryan and Max
    • 7 New GSRs
    • All GSR’s got service sponsors

 

  • PRAASA Report – Nathan
    • Young people’s round table discussion – no young people on the panels
    • Met with the Chair for PRAASA for 2019 being held in Irvine
    • How to present the voice of AA to help with inclusion of sub-groups

 

  • Website – Scott
    • Website is up to date at this time
    • Welcoming anyone to help learn to do the website

 

  • Treatment Committee – Jacqueline
    • Working on Treatment Clients & AA Meetings on April 21, 2018 at LNPC
    • Asking for participation from our district
    • The format will be speakers on three issues, presentation of Bridging the Gap, website, and Ask It Basket

 

  • Memorial Day Picnic – Mary
    • Asking for volunteers tonight on the clipboard
    • For other volunteers see Mary’s number on the flyer to be contacted

 

  • Old Business
    • Approval of District Guidelines
    • Motion to approve District Guidelines
    • Motion seconded – District Guidelines approved

 

  • New Business – No new business
